Sponsorship
Sponsors are named in the issue they appear in. They buy a fixed placement, receive no advance look at editorial, and cannot request or veto topics. A sponsor that becomes the subject of a story finds out when everyone else does.
Holdings
- The publication holds no equity, options or debt in any company it covers.
- Staff declare personal holdings on joining and within seven days of any new position. Anyone holding a position recuses themselves from related coverage.
- Current declaration: our funding correspondent holds diversified index funds only, with no single-name positions in food or biotechnology.
Grants
The science desk received a reporting grant in 2025 from a foundation with no stake in the companies covered. The agreement conferred no editorial rights and expired in March 2026.
Gifts, travel and events
We pay our own travel, including factory and pilot-plant visits. Tasting samples are accepted only where refusing them would make the reporting impossible, and their source is stated in the piece. Gifts above nominal value are declined or donated, and the donation is recorded here.
