Advances in Cultivated Meat Technology for Sustainable Alternative Protein Production: A Review.

Cultivated meat technology has advanced, but cost, scale and product quality still block broad commercial use. The review examines cell lines, culture media, scaffolds, bioprocessing, post-processing, sustainability and regulation. It records progress in cell engineering, serum-free media and production methods, alongside approvals in Singapore and the United States. Yet most markets lack cultivated meat products. Cheaper animal-free media, larger bioreactors, edible scaffolds and better downstream processing remain priorities. Its contribution to food security depends on resolving these constraints.
