Lab Grown Technologies identified three cellular-agriculture patent applications from Hanwha Solutions, Tufts University and IamFluidics in a roundup published by vegconomist. The filings cover muscle-cell differentiation, serum-free growth media and cell harvesting from microcarriers.
The roundup’s central assessment is that these inventions could simplify cultivated meat production by reducing culture-medium inputs and limiting cell losses during processing, according to Lab Grown Technologies. Each application addresses a technical constraint that can affect production cost, consistency or scale.
Hanwha Solutions’ application, WO2026071587A1, tests monoethanolamine as a substitute for supplements containing insulin, transferrin and selenium, according to vegconomist. The disclosed tests produced 36% differentiation in treated bovine muscle stem cells, compared with 14% for the control, the publication reported. Tufts University’s filing, WO2026090612A1, proposes filtered microbial contents as a serum replacement and describes engineering bacteria to make FGF-2, according to vegconomist.
IamFluidics developed microcarriers made with an alginate-based interior and collagen-derived outer layer that can be chemically dissolved after cultivation, vegconomist reported. The company said recovery exceeded 90% in about 15 minutes. It also reported producing approximately 1.3 billion mesenchymal stem cells during 14 days of growth in a rocking bioreactor. The roundup does not provide commercial deployment results or say whether any of the applications have been granted.
CONCLUSION The filings concentrate on two practical cultivated meat constraints: the composition of growth media and the efficient recovery of cultured cells. Commercial-scale evidence and the eventual status of the patent applications remain the key unresolved points.
